A drone roof inspection is the use of a drone to measure, price and assess a roof. The drone will take visual data of the roof and access areas otherwise inaccessible. Drones can provide data on roofs including planes, slopes and areas. They also offer high-resolution photos and videos that a client can be provided to give a more detailed report.
The use of drones to inspect roofs provides safety. The vast majority of home inspectors will not walk a roof because not only is it dangerous, it is not required based on NACHI and ASHI National standards of practice.
Drone roof inspections are efficient and save you time. Typically, home inspectors inspect the roof from the ground, by ladder and through an attic. Using a drone eliminates the time it takes for home inspectors to set up their ladder to gain vision to various portions of the roof or climb up into the attic. By using a drone to inspect a roof, home inspectors are able to visualize areas of the roof that are otherwise inaccessible in a shorter period of time.
Using drone roof inspections can save your client money. When purchasing a home, it can be risky to not know the condition of the home because your home inspector was not able to see certain portions of your roof. Roof repairs can be costly so it is important to have a more detailed depiction of the condition of your roof. It is also risky for home inspectors to walk roofs, the pressure can damage certain materials and end up costing your client money.
Verner Inspection Services offers a drone roof inspection included with every structural inspection. At Verner we believe a job is not truly completed until a customer is satisfied and by adding drones to our handle of technology to get better access to a portion of a home inspection that has given the home inspection industry limitations we believe will benefit our customers.
With drone roof inspections there are limitations. Weather plays a huge role in whether or not a drone roof inspection is possible. If there is rain, snow or high wind condition you will not be able to complete a drone roof inspection. These inspections are also condition permitting. For example, if you live near an airport, federal regulations do not allow drones to be flown within 5 miles of an airport.
